PRP FOR HAIR

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a form of regenerative medicine that has been used in many medical fields from orthopaedic to dermatology for its wound healing properties. These highly effective treatments are safe as we utilise your body’s own cells, hence there is no risk or allergy or infections.

How does Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy work?

Platelets are blood cells that are responsible for the natural healing process in the body. Their main role is to perform damage control where they race to the site of injury (cuts in the blood vessels) and form a clot to seal the damage and prevent excessive blood loss. In addition to this, they begin to secrete large quantities of proteins (growth factors) to initiate the tissue healing process to repair the damage.

This natural wound healing process is what we intend to replicate through platelet rich plasma therapy. The platelets will be extracted from your blood, concentrated and isolated before they are reintroduced into the body. In high concentrations, the activated platelets will secrete the necessary growth factors to repair and rejuvenate; it reduces miniaturisation of hair follicles and encourages normalisation of the hair follicular unit.

What does the treatment involve?

The PRP therapy takes about 30 to 45 minutes from start to completion. First, blood is extracted from you (the amount will depend on the severity of hair loss) and then processed for about 10 – 15 minutes before the platelets can be extracted.

The platelet-rich component is then injected back into the scalp at multiple injection sites to cover the areas of concern. This generally takes about 15 – 20 minutes and usually performed without the need of anesthesia or numbing agent. If needed, ice can be applied onto the scalp to help minimise discomfort.

Although your scalp may feel tender and tight for a day or two, there is no downtime and you can return to work straightaway.

What do I need in order to have PRP treatment?

The first step would be for you to contact us at Bioscor and book in a free no-obligated consult with a hair consultant. During this time, we will explain how PRP is used in conjunction with the Natural Hair Regrowth Program to to kickstart hair growth in stubborn areas i.e. temples or crown, or for overall rejuvenation. This will give you the best chance at fighting hair loss.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of treatments for PRP therapy will vary depending on how severe your hair loss is, and the number of tubes (to process blood) required to cover the areas. The initial series of PRP treatments is performed monthly. However, it is highly advised that you come in for an assessment so we can quote you the recommended amount of tubes and sessions needed for your hair loss condition.

For optimal results, we advise that the PRP treatments are performed in conjunction with our Natural Hair Regrowth Program.
