Dermaceutic Pigmentation and Melasma Program

Dermaceutic for Pigmentation, Spots and Melasma

What is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation is a blemish or spot on the skin that is darker than the skin’s usual tone. They may look like freckles but are often larger and darker. Caused by excessive production of pigment that gives the skin its brown hue, melanin. A number of factors can trigger an increase in melanin production, but the main ones are sun exposure, hormonal influences, age and skin injuries or inflammation. Often, the pigmentation does not reveal themselves immediately, often many years later which is sometimes why they are called “age spots”.

What is Melasma?

Melasma is a dynamic and chronic pigmentary disorder that is more common in women then in men although there are men with the condition. It is often also known as hormonal pigmentation , the mask of pregnancy or chloasma. An important aspect to note is that it is chronic and requires lifelong and holistic management. Melasma can be found in the dermis (middle layer and much more difficult to treat) as well as the epidermis (the top layer where the pigment is actually produced.

How can we treat pigmentation, spots and melasma?

The Dermaceutics Range of professional and home-care products allow us to specifically target pigmentation and even, help improve the appearance of melasma on the skin.
